MoMA PS1′s educational program returns this August for its second iteration. An annual series of workshops, lectures, and discussions, brings students together for a focused conversation on contemporary practice with artists, authors, musicians, curators, theorists, and scholars who have made significant contributions in their respective fields.

The first edition of UniBz Design Festival - a three-day event, including workshops and a final conference - will focus on the topic of Learning. At a time when design schools have proliferated, "parallel" teaching projects have emerged, and schools' programs and educational organizations are heavily affected by budget cuts, it seems important to bring the topic of "Learning" back at the centre of attention.

This interview with Fluxus artist Alison Knowles took place in her Soho apartment in June 2011. Knowles describes being recruited for the original CalArts faculty by Allan Kaprow, the assistant dean of art; what it was like to teach at the institute in the first two years; the kind of student she encountered there; and the radical nature of the pedagogical situation.

James Langdon will present an ongoing research project on the subject of the Construction School, an experimental design programme in Bristol, England (1964 to 1979). This work explores the history of a bold attempt to establish an experimental art school in a provincial English context.

1.The Escola Aberta will be a temporary design school based in Rio de Janeiro. Teachers and students of graphic design from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Amsterdam) will conduct a week of workshops, lectures and activities, aiming to ignite a discussion on ways of teaching and learning and to establish an exchange of ideas with Brazil.2.
And with that, she launched The Satellite Academy, a weekly writing class for queer women who aren't in writing programs. She runs it out of her apartment.
"I want to put them in a learning situation where they don't have to defend their content or perspective," Schulman says.
So far she has eight students and a determined agenda to get more lesbian voices into the literary world.

AltMFA is 2 years old this month! We haven't posted much over the summer so here's an update on what we've been up to. The past couple of months we've been having a lot of crits, which has been great. We've discussed old work, new work, works in progress and works by other artists.
